Announcing the event, to be held on 29 and 30 June, AHB makes the point that the COVID-19 pandemic has shown that there is a need for Africa to establish stronger surveillance and governance systems, predictable financing mechanisms and, better structures to manage pandemics and challenges associated with the ongoing economic and political changes.

To this end the Africa CDC recently launched the New Public Health Order as a new health standard for Africa’s public health focusing on five core pillars, namely:

·         Strengthen African institutions for public health

·         Expand manufacturing of vaccines, diagnostics and therapeutics

·         Invest in the public health workforce and leadership programmes

·         Increase domestic investment in health

·         Action orientated respectful partnerships

The AHB Symposium VIII, therefore, intends to bring together a diverse group of stakeholders, including policy makers, medical technology and pharmaceutical companies, financiers, and healthcare providers to address and discuss these important issues.

Key speakers will include World Health Organisation Director-General, Dr. Tedros Adhanom, and Dr. Matshidiso Moeti, the organisation’s Regional Director Africa.
